Canon in A Major

Benchmarked against Intermediate syllabus standards (intermediate study curriculum (RCM Level 5–6)), the work develops refined tonal control. Key hurdles center on managing two-part hand coordination and synchronizing pedal changes with harmonic shifts. Supporting figures featuring flowing keyboard arpeggios that support emotional melodic peaks need relaxed wrist cushioning. Pedal coordination: execute full pedal clears at dynamic changes to highlight intimate moments. Study Routine: play the melody forte while ghost-tapping the accompaniment keys silently beneath the surface.

Rhythmic momentum flows through a 3/4 metric framework (simple triple meter). Calibrated to ♩ = 116 BPM (*Tempo di marcia*), the piece moves with a spirited with crisp finger articulation pulse. As a practical study rule, feel the larger one-in-a-bar gesture to keep phrases airborne rather than stomping on each quarter note.

Framed in C Major, the score establishes C through a key signature featuring zero sharps and zero flats. Harmonic variety is enriched through dialogue with the relative minor/major (A Minor) alongside strong cadential support from G Major. Harmonically, the progression C → G → Am → F → Dm → G7 pauses expressively on an open half-cadence, leaving harmonic expectation unresolved. In terms of hand topography, C Major yields an unadorned keyboard topography requiring precise thumb tucks without black-key tactile markers.
