In 4/4 (simple quadruple meter), rhythmic continuity is shaped by an authoritative quadruple framework where downbeat accents anchor the overarching phrase architecture. The reference performance speed is ♩ = 118 BPM (*Tempo di marcia*), yielding a spirited with crisp finger articulation tempo profile. From a phrasing standpoint, listen for the overarching four-bar hypermeter to keep phrases singing rather than measure-bound.

Positioned within the Intermediate repertoire (intermediate study curriculum (RCM Level 5–6)), this work offers valuable training in balance and tone. Performers must concentrate on achieving fluid finger legato without relying on the damper pedal to mask uneven key releases. Navigating flowing keyboard arpeggios that support emotional melodic peaks asks for deliberate finger weight distribution. To preserve clarity, feather the pedal to sustain bass notes without drowning upper textures. Rehearsal Step: practice left-hand harmonic leaps with closed eyes to develop spatial keyboard instinct.

Framed in G Minor, the score establishes G through a key signature featuring two flats (B♭, E♭, with F♯ harmonic seventh). Harmonic variety is enriched through dialogue with the relative minor/major (B-flat Major) alongside strong cadential support from D Major. Harmonically, the progression Gm → Dm → G → C → F → E7 navigates expressive chord variations (F, E7) returning home cleanly. In terms of hand topography, G Minor yields a dramatic minor sonority requiring agile thumb crossings on rapid descending passage work.
