Written by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, it helped define the musical'.

Benchmarked against Advanced syllabus standards (advanced concert artist standard (ABRSM Diploma / ARCT syllabus)), the work develops refined tonal control. Key hurdles center on controlling multi-voiced polyphony, executing wide octave reaches without tension, and sustaining velocity. Supporting figures featuring cinematic rolling bass sweeps and sustained chord foundations need relaxed wrist cushioning. Pedal coordination: feather the pedal to sustain bass notes without drowning upper textures. Practice Tip: rehearse octave leaps with feather-light thumb releases, ensuring the arm propels the leap from the elbow. Score pointer: Maintain a buoyant pulse and singable melodic line, emphasizing the ascending figures that mirror the character's optimism. Keep left-hand chord patterns rhythm.

Tonal grounding is defined by C Major, marked in the score by zero sharps and zero flats. The music alternates stability on C with expressive harmonic excursions toward A Minor and its parallel relation, C Minor. Harmonically, the musical line relies on fundamental triad relationships (F Major and G Major) around the tonic root. Under the fingers, C Major features an all-natural keyboard surface requiring firm curved finger knuckles to prevent sliding on ivory white naturals.

Curatorial Repertoire Role: The work serves as a reliable selection for contemporary vocal accompaniment, student recitals, and studio recordings.

Tessitura & Key Transposition: Performers can shift the default tonality of C Major according to singer comfort: a downward transition to B-flat Major reduces top-range vocal demands, while modulating to D Major enhances acoustic carrying power for solo recitals.
