Better Days Piano Solo Arrangement with Chords, Metronome & BPM

Targeted at Intermediate players (transitional keyboard syllabus (ABRSM Grade 4 to Trinity Grade 5)), this score presents rewarding interpretive and tactile hurdles. Attention should center on managing two-part hand coordination and synchronizing pedal changes with harmonic shifts. Accompaniment passages containing contemporary broken triad ostinatos and resonant pedal points require subdued dynamics to spotlight the melody. Mechanically, coordinate pedaling with chord changes to maintain acoustic warmth. Practice Recommendation: drill awkward chord shifts at 60% tempo, ensuring fingers assume target hand shapes before descending. Score pointer: Focus on smooth voicing between the chordal accompaniment and the singing melody line. Use gentle half-pedaling in the verses and gradually expand dynamics thro.

Anchored in C Major, this work utilizes a key signature of zero sharps and zero flats. The composer builds structural coherence around C, deploying the relative pole (A Minor) to introduce tonal contrast before resolving through G Major. Voice leading proceeds primarily through diatonic harmonic motion involving tonic, subdominant, and dominant degrees. Under the fingers, C Major features an unadorned keyboard topography requiring precise thumb tucks without black-key tactile markers.

Written by Ryan Tedder and collaborators, it became associated with them.

Metric propulsion relies on 4/4 (simple quadruple meter), giving the piece a well-proportioned metric pulse alternating primary and secondary stresses across the measure. Set to a metronome speed of ♩ = 108 BPM (*Animato*), the overall character feels cheerful with buoyant rhythmic bounce. Pianists should ensure that they listen for the overarching four-bar hypermeter to keep phrases singing rather than measure-bound.

Performance Applications: In performance programming, Better Days is well matched for community music performances and versatile studio accompaniment.

Transposition Guide: For performers transposing away from C Major, optimal vocal targets include B-flat Major for medium-low voices and D Major for upper registers. B♭ transposing instruments sound in concert pitch when reading the score in D Major.
