Glimpse of Us

Framed in D Major, the score establishes D through a key signature featuring two sharps (F♯, C♯). Harmonic variety is enriched through dialogue with the relative minor/major (B Minor) alongside strong cadential support from A Major. Voice leading proceeds primarily through diatonic harmonic motion involving tonic, subdominant, and dominant degrees. Keyboardists will find that D Major creates an ergonomic setting that supports relaxed hand curvature across its two raised accidental steps.

The score Glimpse of Us, composed by Joji, reflects the stylistic idioms of the contemporary pop piano repertory. This edition contains 138 measures formatted across 7 pages, corroborated through standard contemporary studio engravings. Worldwide rights catalogs anchor this title under ISWC code `T-BC1.85D.62-1`. Curatorial documentation highlights: Released in 2022 as the lead single from SMITHEREENS, 'Glimpse of Us' became one of Joji's most commercially successful songs worldwide. Its piano-driven arrangement and heartbreak.

Organized under a 4/4 time signature, the music exhibits a simple quadruple meter with 4 beats per measure. At ♩ = 84 BPM (Moderato grazioso), the pacing unfolds in a manner described as stable with buoyant, relaxed momentum. A core performance guideline: avoid pounding downbeats mechanically; keep the line buoyant through intermediate pulses.

Graded at the Advanced level (collegiate conservatory benchmark (Fellowship / Advanced Diploma)), the score fosters disciplined keyboard ergonomics. The primary technical hurdle involves refining subtle dynamic voicing across dense chords, executing octave cascades, and preventing hand cramping. When negotiating flowing keyboard arpeggios that support emotional melodic peaks, ensure the singing melody stays dynamically elevated over the accompaniment. Acoustically, refresh damper pedal depth synchronously with bass root changes. Practice Tip: rehearse octave leaps with feather-light thumb releases, ensuring the arm propels the leap from the elbow. Score pointer: Allow the melody to sing above the accompaniment with a warm legato touch and careful finger substitution where necessary. Maintain a very even arpeggiated acco.

Performance Applications: In performance programming, Glimpse of Us is well matched for community music performances and versatile studio accompaniment.

Transposition Guide: For performers transposing away from D Major, optimal vocal targets include C Major for medium-low voices and E Major for upper registers. B♭ transposing instruments sound in concert pitch when reading the score in E Major.
